Windows Phone: Nokia Lumia 900 and what’s yet to come

The most marketed and well acclaimed phone on AT&T has a lot to offer.  Though it doesn’t have the highest specs, it  runs Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, the newest version of Microsoft's mobile operating system, which is arguably  of the most intuitive mobile operating systems available to date. .

Apps

One of it’s main, most advertised features is its integration of apps.  It follows Microsoft’s philosophy of apps communicating with one another to get things done fast and efficient.  Is allows the phone to do a lot more with a fewer programs.  That’s a  good thing considering it only has about 85,000 to 90,000 apps compared to the nearly 400,000 Android has and 575,000 IOS has. despite this the market place is growing at about 300- 500 apps daily which should make in impact in the non far distant future.  When Windows 8 comes out developers will have even more incentive to make apps.  This platform it’s going anywhere soon.

People and Me Hub

The people and me hubs is where all the action takes places on Windows Phone.  It gives you the ability to update all your social networks in one place as well as check up on all your friends.  Every contact is views on what is called a contact card where you can see their latest updates and all their link from al networks.  The phone does its best not to create duplicate cards, but with some help it gets the Jobs done.  Windows Phone has the best social features of any platform.

Threaded Messaging

Don’t you hate it when your Facebook chatting with someone on your iPhone and they randomly sign out.  You then have to close the Facebook app, open the SMS app, and find your friend in there.  If they don’t answer the phone you have to go searching yet against through all the messaging services your friend is on.  This is annoying and Windows Phone has the answer.  It putts all messaging in one place.  If your talking to your friend and they sign off Facebook, on the bottom cornet just tap SMS and it will switch to SMS all in the same feed – no switching needed.  It’s just one more may Microsoft and Windows Phone work to make life a bit easier.

E-mail

Hate when your work e-mail gets mixed up with your personal?  Or some spam e-mail account keeps throwing messages into your primary.  Windows Phone fixes this with separate e-mail inboxes.  Each one is represented by a separate icon or tile and you can mash as many accounts as you want into each.

E-mail also has a threading system that allows clear viewing of the sender.  No more dealing with “re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Hi Bob”.  It’s all there right in front of you in a neat, organized manner.

Microsoft Integration

One of the best things about Windows Phone is integration with Microsoft's cloud services. Zune Music streaming, skydive, Bing, Office in the cloud, and Xbox Live come right out of the box.

With a Zune pass you have full access to Microsoft’s Zune music store.  It comes with the ability to stream and download as many songs as you like for an annual fee of $99.

SkyDrive is probably  the most under acclaimed web service on the internet.  Microsoft offers 25gb’s of free storage to legacy live accounts and 7gb’s to new users.  It all works within a web browser so weather yours, on a friend’s, school’s or a work computer, your files are always avail be.One of the newest features is being able to download a separate folder to manage cloud storage offline.  It’s similar to Dropbox except it has tons more storage.  Windows Phone allows you to view and store files seamlessly to SkyDrive giving 24/7 access to the user.

Bing integration is great your just one tap away from accessing one of the most popular and best ways to search the internet.  In addition to all the great features available on Bing.com, Windows Phone comes with some extra features.

Bing Vision allows the user to hold their phone up to a book cover or just any other product and it will automatically search the web for it.  When it does come up the phone will allow you to open up shopping apps such as Amazon to purchase the item.

Local scout is one of my favorite features.  With a tap of the corresponding  of the bottom icon, you are sent to a list of local restaurants, places for entertainment, ECT.  Rating and reviews are available on the spot. with another tap it will give directions, or even open up an app such as YELP for more info.

Office in the cloud is a great thing.  It allows Microsoft Office documents to be stored and shared.  You can create a list or a power point, give your friends a link, and they can edit it  view remotely.  This feature comes standard on all Windows Phones and is great for the average student, business man, or group leader.

Xbox live is the number one online gaming service and Window Phone comes with the works.  In the Xbox hub gives the ability to see your avatar, message friends, and check stats.  Games downloaded from the market place give out Gamerscore points.  It’s really handy for the person who is always in the game.

Windows Phone 8

This is what update is what tech bloggers across the web claim to be the thing that will give Windows Phone the completive edge it needs.  It’s going to add support for duel core processers, HD screens, NFC, 1080p HD video, higher resolution cameras, the renewal of expandable memory  (not seen since the original Samsung Focus), a more intuitive
tell me, voice to IP capabilities that will allow apps like Skype achieve their full potential and much more  The operating system is already great and boosts features competitors have only attempted to copy.  This update will hopefully catch it up and even put it head of the game.  IE 10 has been tested on html5test.com and achieved a score of 300, beating Android’s 273.   System performance is the only thing the competition currently has over Windows Phone .This update will be the telling of how the platform will perform in the future.  Will 2012 truly be the year of Windows Phone?  Only time will tell.

Windows Live Writer

I’m now using windows Live writer to post to Super Tech Plus.  You may be saying “wait a minute, WLW doesn’t support tumbler”.  I was lucky to find the VcrossPost  @http://plugins.live.com/writer/detail/vcrosspost plugin that allows me to do that.  The only disadvantage is every post has a twin posted on my old blogger account.  All well, it’s not the end of the world.

Windows Live Writer is a great service used by millions of bloggers around the world.  Despite its lack of Tumblr support I still recommend it.  However, it would be nice if Microsoft implemented it in the future update (possibly on Windows 8).  I’m still a happy camper.

This is a Test to publish an article from Windows Live writer to my new tumblr.
